A website redesign can wipe out years of search rankings if it is not planned well. Use this checklist before you start.
List every URL
Export the pages that rank and the pages that other sites link to. Any page that moves needs a one-to-one redirect to its new address.
Keep what already works
Keep the titles, headings and internal links of pages that perform well, unless you have a clear reason to change them.
Test before launch
Crawl the test site, check that pages are indexable, confirm the canonical tags and make sure analytics works on day one.
Next steps
Our technical SEO and SEO audit services are built for this. If you are also rebuilding, see WordPress development.
